The Israel Chamber Otchestra

.

DIC director Ronnie Dissentshik was appointed Director of Israel Chamber Orchestra in 12/1999     when it was on the verge of collapse: He cut costs and increased contributions ten folds as well as   new programming were initiated.

In his first year, 2000, the orchestra finished with surplus for the first time in 5 years.

Several strategic options were developed.

One of Israel's foremost composers and conductors-Maestro Noam Sheriff was appointed music director and the orchestra was well on it's to regain its position as one of the leading orchestras in the country.

The Ministry of Culture had other ideas: it cut the orchestra funding drastically using the funds to try to prevent the collapse of the competing Israel Camerata. Consequently Dissentshik refused to solicit more contribution claiming that it will mean defrauding the supporters which donated mostly because of him.
Later the Ministry renegaded on an agreement with the orchestra and the City of Tel Aviv to refinance the deficit brought on by its conduct.

Most of the board of the ICO and Dissentshik resigned as a protest.

Needless to say acting on the a/m strategic options was way beyond the capabilities of the bureaucracy.
