Gutman Museum of art

In June 2005 we approached by the Board of the Museum which founds itself in severe financial and managerial predicament.

The museum was established to commemorate Israel's most popular artist: painter illustrator and author of children's books.

Within six months the Museum changed direction from one artist museum to a diversified more contemporary program. The new strategy was to diversify but stay close to your origin. Thus in May 2007 a unique exhibition was opened featuring Gutman together with 20 contemporary artists and examining the urban and social changes in the Museum neighborhoods within the last three generations.

In the same spirit a retrospective of Dudu Geva was presented as well as "Zulu" an exhibition that referred to the refuges problem in Tel Aviv confronted with the famous Gutman book: Lobengulu King of Zulu.

Collections shows are becoming more frequent- the one in January 2006 featured paintings from private collections not seen in public for many years.

The 25th anniversary of the artist's death was marked with no less than four different exhibitions in museums all over the country.

.

The galleries were redesigned and the entire building renovated and new wing opened.

The education department was upgraded and operates outside the museum as well.

It published several booklets for the use of tens of thousands of students. Contributions reached all time record in 2005 and 2006 and amounted o millions of NIS during eight years period unmatched for a museum this size. City support increased fourfold. . The number of visitors rose some 60% on a long term basis.

However the most important achievement was to persuade the artist's family to donate their entire collection of paper works to the museum and thus assuring its future as an important cultural institution.
